Process Description
The following links provide additional information and detail about how to Reappoint, Promote and Confer Tenure as set forth in Section 6 of the Academic Tenure Policy. The information here does NOT apply to intial appointments (hiring).
The general standards upon which reappointment, promotion, and conferral of tenure are to be recommended include an assessment of at least the following: demonstrated professional competence in the appropriate mix of the realms of responsibility as defined by each academic unit's Reappointment, Promotion and Tenure Standards and Procedures rule and agreed upon in each faculty member's Statement of Mutual Expectations; potential for future contributions; and service to the university, the academic community, and society. The individual's contributions shall be considered in a manner that is appropriate to each individual appointment, and recommendations shall be consistent with the needs and resources of the university.
There are two types of reviews, Mandatory Reviews and Nonmandatory Reviews. There are also Joint Appointment Reviews.

Faculty members under review, Department Heads, Departmental Voting Faculty, College RPT Committee Members, Deans and the University RPT Commitee Members should know about the Dossier and be familiar with the Definitions of Scholarship.
In addition, they should know the following, respectively:
What the faculty member under review needs to know and do.
What the Departmental Voting Faculty (DVF) need to know and do.
What the Department Head/Chair needs to know and do.
What the College RPT Committee needs to know and do.
What the Dean needs to know and do.
