Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, September 27, 2008
Call to order:
Chair, Darby Orcutt called to order the regular meeting of the UCCC at 12:35 pm on September 27, 2008 in Talley Student Center, Walnut Room.

Remarks and Introductions from the Chair, Darby Orcutt:
Welcome and introductions of committee members.
Remarks from the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Academic Programs, Dr. John Ambrose:
Dr. Jon Rust, who served as CUE chair this past year, will be assisting as Interim Associate Dean for GEP Implementation and is available as well to answer questions and provide assistance. Jon Rust and Catherine Freeman are able to provide a GEP presentation for your college by request.
New Business
Comments from Catherine Freeman, Academic Standards Coordinator:
- Review of Committee Resource packet. New items include cover sheet to attach to course actions, updated syllabus regulations, Format A and B, GEP link, and committee meeting agendas on the UCCC website: http://www.provost.ncsu.edu/governance/standing-committees/courses-curricula/2008-2009/
Determine Quorum:
Quorum will consist of 50% plus 1 of the non-student active roster voting membership.
Approval of Minutes:
The minutes from the meeting on June 18, 2008 were approved. Suggestion made to assign members to record minutes and provide schedule in advance.
Major Actions – Course Actions:

GN 412, 413, 414, and 415 (revision)
The action was approved.
GN 423 (new course)
The action was approved pending the following corrections:
- Prerequisite(s) listed on course action form and syllabus on Page 6 corrected to GN 311 and (MA 131 or MA 141).
- Page 8 - The Statement for Students with Disabilities url needs to be corrected.
GN 425 (new course)
The action was approved pending the following corrections:
- Prerequisite(s) listed on course action form and syllabus on Page 6 corrected to GN 312.
- Corequisite (s) listed on course action form and syllabus on Page 6 corrected to GN 421
- Choose contact hour option –
- 2 Credit Hours and 4 Hours for Laboratory or
- 3 Credit Hours and 6 Hours for Laboratory
- Page 2 – Remove the last sentence on the Course Justification.
- Page 7 - The Statement for Students with Disabilities url needs to be corrected.
GN 490 (new course)
The action was approved pending the following corrections:
- Prerequisite(s) listed on course action form and syllabus on Page 5 corrected to GN 421.
- Choose contact hour option –
- 1 Credit Hour and 1 Hour for Seminar (if selected, reduce content) or
- 2 Credit Hours and 2 Hours for Seminar
- Page 2 – Remove second sentence on Course Justification
- Page 7 – remove “within 24 hours” on attendance policy
USC 298 (new course)

GEP Curriculum Actions:
Action
Transition Program (31TP036) Revision in GEP & Requirements
The action was approved.
First Year College (31FYC036) GEP Revision only
The action was approved.
Other Business:
- GEP Implementation Update and Review of GEP website – Catherine Freeman
The Office of Undergraduate Courses and Curricula (OUCC) launched the new GEP website developed to assist the faculty, departments and colleges with the process of revising curricula for the new GEP. The URL is http://www.ncsu.edu/uap/academic-standards/gep/index.html and provides the GEP category requirements, new forms, instructions, course lists, etc.
- Discussion regarding Curriculum review
Committee discussed dividing up curriculum actions with GEP revisions for review by smaller subgroups of members depending on the type of revision and how many actions are on the agenda.
- Syllabus Tool – Brief presentation of the syllabus tool located at http://delta.ncsu.edu/test/apps/syllabus_tool/ Presentation will be continued at next meeting by Catherine Freeman.
