Syllabus Tool update

The revisions to the syllabus tool should be completed soon, at the end of this week or the beginning of the coming week by Delta personnel. Dr. Ambrose reported to Catherine Freeman that the syllabus regulation clarifications will either be approved in December or in the spring. Therefore, minimally until December, the current syllabus regulations apply until an announcement is made as to when the new syllabus regulation will take effect.

Catherine Freeman presented the syllabus tool.  There were questions posed about how to enter the location of a distance education course and the apparent redundancy of“integrity” and an “honesty” section.  A suggestion was made that a function be available to allow someone to proceed by hitting a “next” button.

While some think the long-term goal would be to have all syllabi on-line, the committee decided that further discussion of this issue would be warranted.

GEP questions

In light of sub-setting not being allowed in the GEP, curricula may decide to require courses for the major which are not solely in the discipline of the major.  For example, if a forestry curriculum wanted to require a specific mathematics course or courses be taken by their students, this is appropriate with proper consults when necessary from the offering college. These course(s) should be listed as major requirements in the Format B.

If curricula are considering making changes to the curriculum in addition to the revisions being made to accommodate the new GEP, the suggestion is to submit the curricular change along with the revisions for the GEP and check the appropriate box on the curriculum action form indicating this.

There was a discussion of the GEP interdisciplinary requirement of 5-6 credit hours.  CUE will probably revisit this requirement soon and make a determination as to whether it remains 5-6 or is changed to 6 credits.  At present there are no 2 credit hour GEP interdisciplinary perspectives courses offered on the campus.

Nominations for chair-elect of the committee for 2009-2010 will occur at the next time.  Lunch will also be served at the next meeting.

Adjournment

The meeting was adjourned at 1:52.
