OPENING:
1. Meeting called to order at 12:37 p.m.
2. Remarks from the Chair, Dr. Andrea Atkin:
a. Gift given to elected chair, Chris Ashwell
b. Introduction of guests
c. Thanks to the UCCC committee and syllabus subcommittee for a productive year.
3. Approval of the minutes from the April 24, 2007 meeting: BEC 330 information needs to be added. The BEC/MB 320 and 325 crosslist clarification will be added to minutes. Minutes were approved with changes.

OLD BUSINESS:

BIO 181 and BIO 183 Revisions
BIO 181 was moved back from the table. BIO 181 and 183 were reviewed for approval. Concerns regarding the proposed revisions included the timing of implementation of the change; the prerequisites for the courses; consultations; and communication to campus and students. CALS will coordinate the notification to students and departments and will open a section of ZO 160 if needed to accommodate the revision to BIO 181 this fall. This change in course content for BIO 181/183 will initiate some revisions to courses and curricula where BIO 181, 183 are listed as pre-requisite or as a requirement.
Course Action Review:

BIO 181 was approved pending changes as follows:
• Syllabus p. 2 URL for attendance regulations,
• Friendly suggestion under point #3- should be 2 days of returning, not 2 days after exam.
• P.5 total value is 50 points, was 100 points a few pages ago, please clarify.
• Missing URL in disability statement.

BIO 183 was approved pending changes as follows:
• Add BIT 410 to the list of pre-coreq for on the front page of the CAF.
• Textbook needs a date,
• URL for disability statement,
• P.2 syllabus under grades, attendance policy needs to be explained or deleted.
• Needs a statement on incompletes, late assignments, and make up for labs.

 

NEW BUSINESS:
1. Consent Agenda:
a. BS Nuclear engineering approved pending changes
• BUS classes that are listed as electives need to be revisited. Some are no longer offered or restricted. Friendly suggestion BUS 455 no longer offered, BUS 420 and 450 must be COM to enroll.
• Footnote 2, approved electives, 700 level courses should be deleted.
• In the proposed 8 semester display Fall of freshman year, the titles of courses are wrong ie MAT 241.
b. IE course prefix change to ISE approved pending clarification on crosslist validity for IE 210 and 441
c. Art and Design Minor revision was approved with no changes
d. Creative Writing Minor revision was approved with no changes
e. CSC curriculum revision was approved with no changes
f. BSE Concentration in Mechatronics revision approved with no changes.

MAJOR ACTIONS:
1. BME 412/512 approved pending changes:
• Revise description to be consistent for BME 412 and BME 512.
• Top of CAF, spell out department name.
• Typo in restrictive statement – put 512 there not 590.
• P. 5 item 7 correct the URL.
• Add statement on incompletes, statement on readings.
• Should their be assigned readings for the textbook?
• P. 5 item 6 honor pledge.

2. PE 278 New course was approved pending changes:
• Change scheduling to just fall

3. EGM 482 New course was approved pending changes:
• Reference text need price or indicate its availability.
• The 2 hours lecture and 6 hour labs doesn’t match scheduling, please clarify.
• Clarify the grading distribution: is it 70%/30% or 55%/45%?
• Define participation since its 20% of the grade.
• Remove the part of the disclaimed referencing not being able to pass the class…

4. ECE 200 revision was approved pending changes:
• P. 8 of syllabus. Incompletes are not for students who didn’t try, remove this, and provide a separate statement on incompletes.

5. ECE 383 New course was approved pending changes:
• 75% of grade is E-team leader’s reference and attendance in seminar, can this be clarified by breaking it down further.
• List grading URL to clarify.
• How is attendance counted and how is e-team feedback counted?
• Title of the course, should it specifically say, “for engineers”?

6. ECE 482 New course was approved pending changes:
• 5% of grade on deadlines met, list penalty for failure to meet deadlines or attend seminars. Refer to course URL here for clarification.

7. ECE 483 New course was approved pending changes:
• refer students to URL on page 7 for details on grading policy.
• Add restrictive statement to syllabus as listed on CAF.
• Change independent/study/research hours to 3

8. BAE 323 revision was approved pending changes:
• Need URL for incomplete policy on p. 14.
• Add junior standing to course description. Junior standing will need to be added as a course restriction each semester the course is scheduled.

9. CS/ENT/PP 470/570 New course was approved pending changes:
• Prereqs need to be on syllabus.
• There’s no reading assignments on page 8.
• Clarify the exam from 1-4. Is this during exam week? Otherwise it will interfere with other courses.
• P.7 fix the statement on incompletes.

10. LPS Curriculum revision was approved pending changes:
• Remove “LPS” from the listing on the 8-semester display where it lists 200 level major elective courses, 300 major elective course etc.
• Choose either roman numerals or regular numbers to be used throughout.

11. Minor in Biomanufacturing New Minor was approved pending changes:
• BBS 426 should be cross listed with BEC 426.
• BEC 497 should be removed.
• P.3 prereqs to enter the minor, may want to choose the course with the molecular content. BIO 183 may be best.
• P. 4 free electives need to clarify that students cannot count courses w/in the minor more than once.
• Include the credit hours on the courses.

12. EE and CPE revisions were approved pending change to revise footnote to say entrepreneurs program.

13. Review of Syllabus regulation final draft.
• #2 Move to the left – formatting.
• Second sentence 2.15 add 2.16.
• 2.11.2 incomplete grades if not longer than 12 months. After the shorter of the following A) as is B) 12 months.
• 2.11.7 wordsmith
• 2-11-9 2nd line for UG’s located _______________ for Grad located _______________
• 2.16 see Richard’s comments
• 2.17 the following statement is require
