Copyright Ownership: Unknown Creators
Some works have been used at NC State for many years and have been added to or modified many times by unknown faculty and/or students. (e.g., laboratory manuals, tests, self-paced learning modules, and so forth). If it becomes important for one reason or another that copyright ownership of such a work be established the REG provides some solutions.
• If a work is created by NC State employees who cannot be identified, NC State shall hold the copyright. §5.3.5.1.1
• If some but not all employee creators can be identified, the known creators shall hold in accordance with the other provisions of this REG and NC State acquires the ownership interest of the unknown employee creators. §5.3.5.1.2
• Unknown student works shall be governed by § 5.3.5.
